Writing poems.
Reading Short War by Lily Meyer. Set in Chile, the story follows teenagers as they radicalize, work on community farms, fall in love, and reckon with American political intervention in South America.
Cooking for and with people. Also, the idea of cooking for people who may no longer be around, or are far away, as a prayer. What foods are important to to them? Cook a dish they like or liked, in their name.
Doechii’s album (duh).
Stone fruit. Go-to breakfast right now is greek yogurt, a big spoonful of tahini, honey, and pomegranate seeds— love a fruit that demands a lil work of the eater.
Two weeks ago I got back from a trip to Guatemala where I had the chance to learn so much about seeds, plants, and community. I’ll carry it with me through this moon and all the rest of them. Rethinking pleasure, abundance, and luxury via Upstream Podcast’s episode The Politics of Pleasure w/ Eric Wycoff Rogers and Zarinah Agnew:
“We should take pleasure in abundant things. In order to sell luxury goods and to create artificial scarcity as a means of motivating labor, a lot of effort has gone into convincing people that rare things are better than abundant things. But there are many pleasures that are common and abundant: sunbathing, simple baked goods, social experiences, listening to music, digital adventures, getting warm when you are cold, drinking cold water when you are warm, napping, being kind or helpful to a friend or partner or family member or child, petting an animal, enjoying a tea, getting cozy, doing exercise, potatoes in all forms, soup, etc. These wonderful things (and other abundant pleasures) should be the things that we derive joy from in our lives; not rare, difficult-to-procure luxury goods and experiences.”
The importance of storytelling. Tell your story, listen to stories, ask the people in your life to tell stories. Seek out stories from people you do not know.
Another podcast episode: Beekeeping, Bosnia & in the End Times w/ Larisa Jašarević. In my interested in honey era.
